Since the year 2000, the Parksville Qualicum Community Foundation has been able to distruibute about $87,000 to the community. Grants have been made possible from flow through funds from the Vancouver Foundation and funds from the Parksville-Qualicum Community Foundation's Community Fund.
Grants Awarded in 2007
In 2007, the Foundation made almost $17,000 available to support the work of the following organizations:
The Old School House Arts Center- to purchase new Class Room tables.
Bard to Broadway Theatre Society - to operate the Senior Teen Acting Camp
Rainbows - to provide updated curricula and facilitator training.
Mid Vancouver Island Habitat Enhancement Society - to provide volunteer monitoring and a public awareness programe for the Englishman River Estuary.
Vancouver Island Opera - to provide a Schools and Seniors program this year.
893 Beaufort Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron - to construct a trophy cabinet.
Parksville-Qualicum Elks Lodge 3589 - to introduce identification kits into the elementary schools to protect children.
Errington Therapeutic Riding Association - to purchase new protective headgear for riders.
Oceanside Hospice Society - to purchase portable massage tables.
Mount Arrowsmith Pipes and Drums Association - to provide tuition to two Pipe and Drum students.
Qualicum Beach Historical and Museum Society - to add more audio stations for museum exhibits.
BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Parksville-Qualicum Beach and District Branch - to provide low cost spaying and neutering.
District 69 Society of Organised Services (SOS) - to support the "hardship emergency fund".
Grants Awarded in 2006
In 2006, the Foundation was able to offer grants totalling almost $17,000 to the following charitable organizations:
North Island Wildlife Recovery Association towards a program for 6-14 year olds at Wildlife Day camps to learn about wildlife and the environment
Parksville & District Historical Association to archive photographs left to the museum, so that they can be accessed by the public for educational, genealogical and other purposes
Parksville Garden & Parkland Society to continue the 5 year project to beautify the Parksville Train Station and Water Tower
Eagle Park Healthcare Auxiliary for the redevelopment of the garden areas of Eagle Park to allow safe and easy access
Rest and Recuperative Equine Care Society to purchase a computer, printer and scanner to produce brochures for promotion
Forward House Community Society for a therapeutic program for adults with serious and persistent mental health problems
Parksville & District Association for Community Living for computers for the day programs for adults with developmental disabilities
Errington War Memorial Association to replace worn chairs used for community functions that support the Errington preschool, recreational and community events
Project Literacy Parksville/Qualicum for course materials for tutors of children with leaning problems, where parents cannot afford to pay
District 69 Society of Allied Support Groups to promote with newspaper ads and posters their two All Terrain wheelchairs
